• NRV Passenger Rail Station Pedestrian, Bicycle, and Transit Connectivity Study “Cambria Bike/Pedestrian Study” (8/27/26, 4-6 PM Public Meeting #2)

  • The Town of Christiansburg and the NRVMPO is conducting a bike and pedestrian connectivity study. A major catalyst for this effort is the construction of the NRV Passenger Rail Station, which will bring new travel options and visitors to the area. Visit here to see an overview of the 8/27/26 meeting at the Christiansburg Town Hall and to provide input online; comments due by 9/20/26.

• Employment Mobility Study and Resource Manual (11/20/25 NRVRC-MPO task order)

  • Purpose: update the 2009 Employment Mobility Study and the 2010 NRV Mobility Resource Manual.

    • Employment Mobility Study Update will re-evaluate existing commuter patterns, barriers to transportation, and explore potential solutions. Work is anticipated to begin in April 2026 and be completed by December 2027. See original study here.

    • The Resource Manual, designed to serve as a comprehensive transit guide for citizens and mobility managers in the region, was updated by the New River Valley Agency on Aging in 2022. The effort to update the manual will begin in April 2026 and be completed by December 2027. See the original 2010 manual here.

• Valley to Valley Trail Study

  • The New River Valley Regional Commission needs your help to solicit input on the Valley-to-Valley Corridor Study. The Study will allow project partners to preserve rights-of-way for a future multijurisdictional bicycle and pedestrian trail connecting the New River Trail State Park to the Roanoke River Greenway. The Valley to Valley Public Engagement Survey lets users select their preferred routes from the three highest-ranked alignments of each section (Pulaski to Radford, Radford to Blacksburg/Christiansburg, and Blacksburg/Christiansburg to Roanoke County). The survey also includes an option to "build your own route" using previously identified trail segments.
