460 Business Bike/Pedestrian Study

This page provides an overview of the 460 Business Bike/Pedestrian Study. Effective November 2023, this Task Order with RK&K is for a corridor study along approximately 2.5 miles of Route 460 Business (North Franklin Street/South Main Street) from Route 114/Peppers Ferry Road in Christiansburg to Industrial Park Road in Blacksburg. The need for this corridor study was identified due to the growing need for bicycle and pedestrian accommodates along this route and lack of sidewalks, bike lanes, or other accommodations in this corridor.

Development along this corridor has accelerated in recent years and will likely continue with the New River Valley Passenger Rail station planned at the Uptown Christiansburg mall location as well as other residential, retail, and healthcare industry growth. The goal of the study is to identify a multimodal approach, focused on bicycle, pedestrian, and transit users, to improving the transportation network along Route 460 Business and connections to adjacent transportation facilities, including the Huckleberry Trail, the pedestrian bridge over the 460 Bypass, and various other bicycle and pedestrian facilities connecting to downtown Blacksburg and Christiansburg. This scope assumes the Study effort will take approximately one year to complete.
